There’s something magical about the sun rising. The beautiful colors, the fresh breeze that often accompanies it and the feeling of a new day starting. And to savor that feeling I’ve created a gorgeous new cross stitch pattern for you! Because the pattern only uses the cross stitch (arguably the easiest type of stitch that anyone can do) it’s easy peasy and so much fun! Let’s take a look at it!
The sunrise cross stitch pattern in a nutshell
This pattern uses 11 colors, carefully selected to recreate the warmth and glow of a rising sun. The palette includes shades of pink, blue and green, evoking the dreamy hues of dawn. The use of multiple colors adds depth and dimension to the piece, making the sunrise come to life stitch by stitch. And look at those adorable seagulls! They’re extremely typical for Dutch beaches (which is where I based this design off!).

Cross stitch pattern dimensions and fabric choice
The Sunrise cross stitch pattern measures 76 x 76 stitches, making it a compact project that’s perfect for a quick creative session or a weekend hobby. If you’re stitching on 14-count Aida fabric, the final design will be approximately 5.4 x 5.4 inches (13.7 x 13.7 cm). This size makes it an ideal pattern for framing in a decorative hoop or even incorporating into larger home décor projects like cushion covers or wall art. If you want to hang it on the wall then you’re best off stitching it in a 5.9 inch / 15 cm embroidery hoop and then transferring it into a 5 inch / 13 cm embroidery hoop. A 14-count Aida is perfect for beginners, offering a manageable stitch size without being too overwhelming. The fabric’s evenly spaced holes make counting easy, ensuring that even novice cross stitchers can complete the design with accuracy.
